The Museum That Runs
Wheels Through Time Museum
Nestled in the Western mountains of North Carolina's Haywood County, in Maggie Valley, is one of North Carolina tourist

destination gems. "Wheels Through Time: the museum that runs" is unique. This collection of several hundred American motorcycles is not only comprehensive in its display of more than 28 makes from American motorcycle history, but offers the visitor a cultural / educational experience that no other transportation museum in the United States matches. Through machines on display at Wheels Through Time - from the 1903 Indian, to the 1916 Traub (the one of a kind machine famously found behind a false wall in Chicago in 1967 and often labeled the world's rarest motorcycle), to the prototype machines and racing bikes that define historic innovation and the path to modern motorcycling - the visitor is treated to a museum experience of operational machines. We are the "Museum that Runs". Remembering that the early Harley Davidson machines were referred to as the "Silent Grey Fellows", our guests are given opportunity not only to steep themselves in the cultural history and development of American transportation, but treated to the sights, sounds, and smells of operational dynamism that make transportation history presentation by our docents come to life. If there is one thread common to our shared American heritage, it is that our success - from the time Horace Greeley famously charged us to "Go West" - has been underscored by our willingness to pick up, pack up, and transport ourselves over the next horizon seeking our fortune. That transportation theme comes alive at Wheels Through Time every day of operations in a fashion that exceeds the expectations of our guests from around the world with a regularly of the first degree.
The Fun Never Stops
Cataloochee Ski Area
Consistently one of the earliest resorts in the Southeast to open the ski season and the latest to close, thanks to its technologically advanced snowmaking capability, Cataloochee Ski Area is a winter playground for the entire family. With 16 slopes and trails, Cataloochee Ski Area offers mountains of fun for everyone, from skiers to snowboarders, from novices to veterans. Beginners can get a feel for things on a couple of smooth, gentle slopes (classes and private lessons are also available), while the more adventurous can head to the ramps, rails and boxes at the Cat Cage Terrain Park. For those with a need for speed, there's plenty of steepness on this mountain. Nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains, the surrounding views are magical. When you need a break or have taken the skis off for the day, check out the lodge, where you can warm up by the double-sided fireplace, enjoy some good food and drink, and perhaps even listen to a live band.
